My collaborative work with research mentors and colleagues at HUH and CSPH centers on studies that examine health inequities in surgical care and outcomes for racial/ethnic populations. Our goal is to identify factors that contribute inequities in surgical care to inform structural and interpersonal level interventions that improve surgical care
for underserved and underrepresented populations.

I currently serve as a co-investigator of numerous projects evaluating surgical outcomes and access to surgery in populations with Limited English Proficiency and racial/ethnic groups using State Inpatient Databases. I was a research assistant on a randomized clinical trial that aimed to develop and implement a cultural dexterity curriculum for surgical residents on working with diverse patient populations. As part of my RA role, I contributed to a study evaluating the feasibility and best practices for implementation a cultural dexterity curriculum among surgery residents and faculty using focus group pilot data.

I have contributed to a variety of projects in adults and pediatric populations using large administrative sets like NSQIP, HCUP and NIS to understand disparities in surgical outcomes for populations of color.

My collaborators and mentors are Dr. Terrance Fullum and Dr. Gezzer Ortega.
